“Eh… Cain…?”

Liltana made a surprised expression at Cain entering the building as if it was nothing.

“Lil… going alone is a big no-no, alright? You could’ve at least told me…”

Liltana nodded tearfully at Cain’s smile, but this wasn’t the right time for all that.

“Hey… what the hell’s this? First this brat, now you. Is this really how you treat the Naarnis Company?”

The ones with the swords were most likely the Narnis Company’s escorts. Five of them pointed their swords at Liltana, while the rest all turned to Cain.

Darmeshia grabbed Nigeet by the shoulders and pulled him back behind Cain.

“Cain-sama, please get Her Highness Liltana!”

“Yeah, I know. Anyway, it’s fine now.”

Cain smiled at the frantic Nigeet, then turned back to the company bodyguards.

“Well then… you lot over there, is that really how you treat Her Highness the Imperial Princess of the Baisas Empire…?”

At Cain’s shocking words, the bodyguards’ eyes widened.

“Her Highness the Imperial Princess!? Why’s someone like her here!?”

“It’s because you lot kidnapped Palma! You have the same carriages as the ones we saw when she was kidnapped!”

Cain smiled at Liltana who had said that even while being held at swordpoint.

“I don’t know anything about that… are you sure you’re not misunderstanding something? Even if she’s Her Highness the Imperial Princess or whatever, what will happen if it gets out she attacked a large company of the country? Well, adventurer brat over there, what’d’you think, huh?”

The leader of them all stepped forward with an evil smile and his sword propped up on his shoulder, then continued.

“I’m Gelta, an exclusive bodyguard here. B-Rank. You’re an adventurer too right, so you should know what that means?”

If someone was B-Rank, that meant they had faced bandits before. ––In other words, they had killed people.

However, Cain’s expression didn’t waver at all.

Seeing Cain’s expression not change at all, Gelta went ‘Oho’, seemingly a little interested.

“First off is Liltana. Could we have her back, please?”

As Cain stepped forward, the bodyguards all tensed up. The man who had been pointing his sword at Liltana held the tip of it right in front of her neck.

“Don’t come any closer! Or don’t you understand what’s going on?”

Without seeming to care about what the man holding Liltana at swordpoint had just said, Cain took another step forward.

–– and disappeared.

“Wha-!?”

“Eh!?”

The very instant the men expressed their surprise, Cain appeared back on the same spot.

–– with Liltana in his arms.

And then, the sword of the man who had been pointing it at Liltana fell to the ground with a clang. –– along with the arm that had been holding it.

“What…”

“Eh…”

“I-I… don’t have my arm!? My armmmmmmmmmm owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!”

The man whose arm had been cut off in a split second by Cain rolled around on the floor in pain.

It had been so instantaneous that Liltana and Nigeet also couldn’t hide their surprise.

But that was only natural, as Liltana had just been being held at swordpoint and now before she knew it was being held in Cain’s arms.

“…Cain…what just…”

Cain smiled at the upset Liltana.

“Lil, it’s going to be all right now. But still, don’t do rash things like that… this is the kingdom after all… if something were to happen to the Imperial Princess… well, yeah…”

Liltana nodded, her cheeks dyed red by Cain’s smile and words.

“Nigeet, I’m leaving Lil to you.”

Nigeet got himself together from his frozen-in-shock state at Cain’s words and nodded.

He put down Liltana, whom he had been holding in his arms, and urged for her to go over to Nigeet.

With an expression as if she hadn’t had enough of something yet, Liltana uncertainly made her way to stand next to Nigeet.

“Well then… there are no more hostages.”

Cain turned back to the men, and, unlike the gentle smile he had shown Liltana, he narrowed his eyes a bit and raised the corners of his mouth.

Seeing that expression, shivers ran down the men’s spines.

“This guy’s bad news… you lot, don’t let your guards down.”

“Right”

Led by Gelda, they pointed their swords at Cain.

“First these guys need to be…”

Simultaneously with Cain’s muttering, one of the men was blown away into a wall.

His back making a dent in the wall, the man lost his consciousness then and there.

“Eh…”

“What happened??”

“I-I couldn’t see…”

Cain smiled at the agitated men.

“Well, I have to go pick Palma up quickly, don’t I?”

In concurrence with those words, another man was blown into the wall, knocked unconscious. And another one…

Gelta was the last one left.

“Mo-… monster…”

Said Gelta, his face clouded by fear, the tip of his sword shaking in accordance with his body.

“You can have a nice long chat with the guards later, okay.”

With those words, Gelta too, was sent flying into the wall, just like the rest of them.

“Shit… why is such a monster…”

With those words, Gelta’s consciousness sank into the darkness.

The man whose arm had been cut off also lost his consciousness to Cain. Cain then cast Heal on the stump of a limb from which blood was endlessly flowing, stopping the bleeding.

“Something like this, at least for the time being. Liltana, are you all right?”

As Cain turned around, his expression turned back to its usual gentleness. However, Liltana and Nigeet couldn’t hide their surprise at Cain’s true strength.

“Cain, what…?”

Cain smiled at Liltana as she asked that question.

“First, we go get Palma. Darmeshia, could I have you watch over this lot?”

“Understood, Cain-sama.”

Darmeshia gave an elegant bow, seemingly not caring in the slightest about what shocking things had just gone down.

“Alright then, Lil, let’s go get Palma together. Nigeet, you coming? I’d feel worried with Lil being alone.”

“…Yes, I shall accompany you.”

Nigeet nodded along with Liltana and followed Cain.

Cain went into the back of the store and stopped in front of an empty wall.

“Cain, why did you stop here…”

Cain ignored Liltana as she said this behind him, and casually put his hand on the wall and pushed.

That moment, the wall fell over, away from them.

“Wha-!?”

“Eh…”

Cain smiled at the two surprised people.

“It’s like a hidden door. Come on, let’s go get Palma.”

Said Cain, before stepping forward and casting Light on the tip of his finger to see, and descending down the stairs.

“Hang on a sec, I’m coming too.”

Liltana followed Cain, she herself followed by Nigeet.

After they had descended underground, they found themselves in a stone passageway lined with countless rooms covered by iron bars.

Inside these rooms, also partitioned from each other with iron bars, were children.

Human and beastman alike, the children were trembling in a corner of the room.

Cain went past all of them and stopped in front of the very last set of iron bars.

“–– Palma, we’ve come to get you.”

Said Cain gently, Palma sitting on the floor and helplessly staring downwards in front of him.
