“– – Cain-dono… I cannot cure that poison. Nobody other than the pope-sama or the Saint-sama herself would be able to cure that poison…”

The words that came from the pale bishop were ones that indicated he had given up.

Hearing that, but wanting to save Hinata, Cain got ready to cast magic he had never used in front of others before.

[Perfec– –]

The door to the room opened.

The captain stormed into the room.

It seemed he had been in a hurry after having been left behind, as his face was red, and he himself quite furious.

“Cain-dono, how dare you leave us bodyguards behind and take the Saint-sama away like that! And seeing how things turned out like this, how is the kingdom going to take responsibility?”

Interrupted in using his healing magic by the captain, who was still catching his breath, Cain started becoming frustrated. Indeed from the standpoint of a bodyguard, leaving one’s charge was a problem. Even if it was the captain saying it.

“Captain, she was attacked while I was away, yes? What were you doing when she was attacked…?”

The captain made a loathsome face.

“I’ll be casting healing magic now. Please get out.”

The captain tried to refuse.

“Why should we bodyguards of the Saint-sama leave? You should be the one leaving.”

Thinking they wouldn’t make it like this, Cain released his killing intent at the captain.

If they completely received the killing intent of Cain, who was basically a demigod, no normal human would be able to keep their consciousness.

The captain’s eyes rolled up into his head in an instant, his body collapsing onto the floor.

Cain gently put down his body on the floor and turned back to Hinata.

Seeing that, the bishop’s eyes widened in surprise.

“Bishop-sama, I’ll be using magic now. Please don’t say anything about this magic to anyone. Please choose between leaving or keeping your mouth shut about this.”

Seeing Cain’s serious expression, the bishop fell into thought for a few seconds, then – – he nodded.

“I won’t speak about it to anyone. Please let me see too.”

Cain nodded, and got his magical power ready before casting the magic.

[Perfect Heal]

Cain released a divine, golden light, which enveloped Hinata. When the light finally went out, colour had returned to Hinata’s face.

Cain checked with [Appraisal] that she had indeed been cured, then nodded convincingly.

“Th-that magic…”

Having witnessed Cain’s magic from behind with his very own eyes, the bishop began shaking.

– – Then, he got down on both knees and lowered his head.

“Cain-sama… is an Apostle-sama…”

Seeing that, Cain broke out in a cold sweat.

“No… that’s not…”

Cain tried to deny it, but the bishop shook his head.

“No, there’s no doubt about it. It’s described in the holy scriptures as well. That being wrapped in a golden aura while casting magic means that one is an Apostle-sama of the gods…”

Cain, who hadn’t even known such holy scriptures even existed, was troubled on how to deny it, when Hinata regained her consciousness.

“Mmmn…”

Having woken up, Hinata sat up, and wondering why she was in the church, she asked why it was so.

“Why am I here…? I’m supposed to be handing out food… ah, Cain-sama, bishop-sama, how come I’m here?”

The two of them seemed relieved that she had regained consciousness.

“Thank goodness… you were attacked and poisoned. I somehow managed to heal you though. I’ll tell you the details once we get back to the royal castle. How are you feeling?”

Having no real problems when she tried to move, Hinata nodded.

“I’m fine. On the contrary, I actually feel better for some reason.”

“That’s good then. But still, I’m really sorry. I couldn’t protect you…”

Cain bowed apologetically.

“It’s fine. I feel better anyway. But still, bishop-sama, why are you sitting down there…?”

Hinata found the bishop kneeling on the ground quite strange.

“Saint-sama… Cain-sama is an Apostle-sama, right… The magic he used when he saved you, Saint-sama, glowed golden. Just like how it was described in the holy scriptures…”

Smiling, Hinata nodded silently in response to the bishop’s fearful question.

“I knew it…”

“Hey, hang on!!!”

Cain was surprised that Hinata had admitted it.

“There’s nothing wrong with the bishop-sama. He’s one of the people from the Holy Country we can trust.”

“Don’t tell me… the Saint-sama already knew…?”

Hinata nodded once more to the surprised bishop, before continuing on.

“Yes. I had a divine revelation from the god…”

Thanks to Hinata’s decisive words, Cain couldn’t make excuses any more.

So, in order to explain the situation to him, the bishop ended up riding to the royal castle in the carriage with them.

The captain still hadn’t regained his consciousness, so he was left in the care of the sisters in the church.

The royal castle had already been contacted by the guards, and thus was in quite the frantic state.

Cain and the other two were immediately shown to the reception room.

Then, the door opened and the king, Prime Minister Magna, Duke Eric, and Vice-Commander of the royal knights, Dime, all entered the room in a hurry.

The king confirmed Hinata was fine, then made a relieved face.

The king sat down in the middle of the sofa, with Prime Minister Magna and Duke Eric on either side of him, and Dime standing behind them.

“So, just what happened here…”

“They used the Poison of Delpone. Then, the Saint-sama collapsed and lost her consciousness…”

When Cain said ‘Poison of Delpone’, the king’s eyes widened.

“The Poison of Delpone… what, really!? But if the Saint-dono is as I see her, then she must have been healed… oh, it’s Cain, so it’s only natural…”

Relieved, the king continued on.

“Saint-dono, I apologise for what happened here as the representative of this country. I’m sorry.”

Prime Minister Magna and Duke Eric bowed alongside the king.

Cain was surprised that the three of them had lowered their heads.

“Your Majesty, please raise your head. I was the one who asked the bishop-sama to hand out food. This country bears no responsibility in what happened. And Cain-sama even healed me, so there’s nothing wrong with me at all right now.”

The three of them raised their heads and sighed.

“Your Majesty, did Your Majesty also know that Cain-sama was an Apostle-sama…”

Seeing Cain and the king’s back-and-forth, the bishop seemed to have guessed the answer.

“Bishop-dono, only a limited number of people within this country know that. So please be careful when addressing him.”

The king told the bishop, and after making sure he had nodded his understanding, the king looked at Cain.

“But still, how did it end up like this?”

“Well…”

Cain told the king how there had been an urgent summons from Marquis Corgino while he was doing his bodyguard duties, how he had tried to refuse but eventually gone along reluctantly after the captain had told him to go, and how when he arrived back at the scene, Hinata had been attacked and was lying collapsed on the ground.

When he finished his explanation, the king frowned.

“Corgino, eh… he really did something unnecessary there. Then, what about the criminal?”

The king glanced at Dime, who began talking.

“According to eyewitnesses, the culprit was some child from the slums. The guards chased the kid, but… sadly they lost sight of them. They found the kid a little later, but – – the kid was already dead…”

“Is that so…”

The king sighed at Dime’s explanation.

“The truth will stay in the dark at this rate… Cain, how will you amend this failure?”

The king looked at Cain strictly.

Cain stood up and lowered his head.

“I’m terribly sorry for what happened. I will definitely catch the true culprit…”

Cain could not forgive them having made a child the culprit, then disposing of them after they had attacked the saint.

Noticing Cain clenching his fists tightly, the king nodded.

“Cain, go get ‘em. King’s orders. Find the true culprit and catch them.”

At the king’s words, Cain went down on one knee and placed his right hand above his heart.

“As you wish.”

Cain stood up and bowed, then left the room.

In the room, the king heaved a single sigh.

“Your Majesty, is leaving it to Cain really a good idea?”

The king nodded in response to Magna’s question.

“We can’t search through the entire slums with just the guards. We can but rely on Cain’s power.”

“If you let Cain-kun do it though, he might destroy the royal capital if he’s not careful…”

The king’s eyes widened at Duke Eric’s words.

“Ri-right… If he were to use large-scale magic… it would be nice if he didn’t try to destroy the whole royal capital…”

The three of them imagined the royal capital, destroyed.

Leaving the royal castle, Cain returned to his mansion and entered his office. He had such a serious face, and atmosphere around him, that none of his servants called out to him.

Then, inside his office, he cast magic.

[Summon: Darmeshia]

A magic circle appeared in his office, which his butler from Drintor, Darmeshia stepped out of.

“Cain-sama, you summoned me. Did something happen for you to summon me here instead of coming to Drintor…?”

Normally, if Cain had something he wanted him to do, he would go to Drintor, but Darmeshia guessed that there was some pressing matter for which he had been summoned to the royal capital.

“Hinata, the Saint, was attacked. I somehow saved her with my magic, but I’d like you to look for the culprit. The perpetrator, a child, was killed by them. If this goes on, the truth will stay hidden in the dark. But with your abilities, you can gather information from throughout the royal capital.”

Darmeshia bowed.

“I’ll have the information you want by tonight. At your command, I shall use my full power.”

Then, Darmeshia created something pitch-black and equally dark in the palm of his hand.

From within that darkness, the sounds of many things moving could be heard. Hundreds, thousands, no, tens of thousands of them. All of them servants, waiting for orders from their master.

“Find the criminals who are after the Saint Hinata’s life. Immediately.”

At Darmeshia’s words, any signs of the moving ‘things’ disappeared.

“I think I’ll have the information soon with this. I will tell you as soon as I come to know myself, Cain-sama.”

Sitting in his chair, Cain nodded to Darmeshia.

  1. You know, I think you should change “Sarakhan Company” to “Saracaen Company”.

The official English translation says so.

    1. The overall culprit may be the pope but it’s like fighting a boss. You don’t just get to the boss without going through the dungeons floor and minions.

Pope is in their country. Most likely, the captain contracted with the local dark guild so it’s actually the dark guild and captain currently.

Once you defeat them, you get info on the boss.

I hope Cain build his own country and cut ties with this King. Always blaming Cain, it is not his fault. Moreover, they should be grateful that Saint still breathing. Cut the engagement also. His daughter spill his behavior too. Annoying

  6. I’m almost blown away at how dumb the author has made Cain. This entire “guard the saint” arc has been physically painful to read. Anyways, thanks for the good quality translation.

    1. Basically, he can’t refuse the Pope’s knight captain without a reasonable excuse that won’t reveal his identity. A step wrong could get the Pope to start a war or know Cain’s status and they definitely will use even dirtier method to get Cain to their country. It won’t be a problem for Cain but the people around him will be living in danger. Cain could always swing his status around to solve all the problem but if he does so, the people that were trying to revive the demon lord will become harder to catch. Hence the hesitation in his actions.

      1. although that can happen but the problem is it’s never been in cain consideration when he taking this action, because if he did, he has many option to tackle the problem.

then again, this is a stupide story from the very beginning and to complain about his stupidity at this point is just plain hypocrite

  8. Thanks for the uploads as always! Also oof. Darmeshia is a top tier information gatherer in a couple senses. One is spying and eavesdropping, the other is using those for torture.
