In the morning, the students left the city by carriage.

The place they would be heading to now was Tanbaal, the city of parliament.

The students were going to observe the parliament and how it worked while there, and Cain would also have to discuss his compensation there.

Even though he felt a bit heavy-hearted, he still chatted with the excited Telestia and other two inside the carriage.

On the way, they stayed a night at a staging outpost, and arrived in Tanbaal by sundown the next day.

“So this is Tanbaal…”

There was a huge building in the centre of the city. The Parliament’s assembly hall, which could also be called the symbol of the country, could be seen all the way from the entrance.

They would be given the tour the next day, so arriving at the inn, they were all divided up and relaxed in their rooms.

After dinner, everyone returned to their rooms, but Cain, on the other hand, had something to do.

He had been told by Fort to show up at the guild once they had arrived.

Cain told the teachers a little about what was going on, then left the inn, heading for the guild.

He had reminded the teachers to make sure not to tell Telestia and the other two no matter what. If they found out…

Cain gave an involuntary shudder while walking along.

The adventurers’ guild was quite close to the city centre, so he found it quite easily. Cain opened the door and stepped inside.

It was already dark outside, so the report and handing in of requests had already finished, and voices of laughter came from the bar in an annex to the side.

A few adventurers were chatting while looking at the requests pinned to the request boards, searching for the request they would do the next day.

When Cain entered, everyone glanced at him for a moment, but, losing interest at a uniformed kid walking in, went back to what they had been doing.

Cain went over to a free counter and called out to the receptionist lady there.

“Ummm… I came here because Fort-san told me to drop by the guild, but…”

“Fort-san…? Do you mean Ghazal’s guild master, Fort-san?”

“Yeah, that’s right.”

“May I ask your name? I’ll have to go check, see.”

“It’s Cain.”

“So you’re Cain-sama. I’ll go check, so please wait a little.”

The receptionist lady went into the back and started talking to her boss sitting there.

When the boss heard Cain’s name, they hurriedly stood up and immediately went out to the counter.

“I am sorry for having made you wait! Sir Silfo- …Cain-sama! A letter came from Fort-san by swift horse, and I’ve heard of its contents. I will go call the guild master, so please show Cain-sama to a private room. Also, please get some tea ready.”

The receptionist lady tilted her head in confusion at her boss’s attitude towards Cain, but she showed Cain into the reception room.

“Please wait here. They will be here soon.”

The receptionist lady bowed and left after having prepared the tea.

Not long after, there was a knock on the door, and two men entered the room. One of them was a human, while the other was an elf.

The two of them smiled and sat down opposite Cain.

Seeing their faces, Cain’s eyes widened.

“You have quite the surprised face, Sir Silford. No, perhaps calling you big-brother-in-law would be better, bro for short. I’m Raden, the guild master here. And this is sub-guild-master Gossack.”

“I’m Gossack. Nice to meet you, Sir Silford.”

The smiling young man who had declared himself the guild master looked no different from Eden.

As such, it was only natural that Cain was shocked.

However, there was something even more important than that.

(He just called me big-brother-in-law, didn’t he…?)

“A-are you perhaps…”

“Yep, it’s as you thought. I’m big sis Tifana’s younger brother. Only by a little though.”

Seemingly not caring about Cain being surprised at the unexpected turn of events, Raden began talking.

“I received a letter from Fort-san. It seems like Minister of Parliament Malph put his hands in the one place he shouldn’t have.”

“Yeah… This is gonna be rough on parliament. It’ll probably turn out to be quite the whopping sum…”

The two of them explained how the parliament would hold a trial like in Cain’s previous life, and eventually declare a verdict. Most of the time, their defence would be heard there, but this time, everyone, including the involved parties had already heard about it, so there was no running away.

Parliament had already been given an explanation, and had made an opening in its schedule to discuss the matter.

As for the exact time, ––it would be right when the Esfortean students would be doing their observation tour.

It was going to be a public hearing, which would be the contents of their study.

“…No way…”

“Yeah, you Esfortean students have your tour that day, right. I think they fitted the schedule to it. They might be thinking you won’t be able to say anything too out-there in front of the other students. MP Malph might’ve been trying to aim for that.”

Not having wanted to turn it into a big deal at first, Cain had thought he would just go to the parliament alone and settle it all.

He had explained it to the teachers, but if it got out that he had been attacked in a foreign country, it would damage the public image of Ilstin. He had been thinking on how to avoid that, but it seemed Malph had had different plans.

Raden surmised that Malph was planning on giving an explanation that would invite sympathy, trying to decrease the amount he had to pay, even by a little.

“Actually, how much is the fine? I don’t really know about how things work here…”

Cain asked, to which Raden opened his mouth after thinking about it a little.

“Fifty, or something around there.”

“Fifty gold coins… that’s quite a lot of money.”

Fifty gold coins was, converted to Yen, around fifty million (~459 200 $). A huge amount of money. It was more money than one got as a settlement for a traffic accident, and Cain hadn’t even been injured.

However, Raden shook his head.

“No, it’s fifty platinum coins. Although not all of it will go to you…”

“Eeeeeeeeh!? That much…”

The fine was five-hundred-million Yen (~4 592 000 $).

It was a considerable amount of money. While Cain’s assets, counting his investments into his city, were more than that, this was still multiple tens of percents of that.

“It’ll probably be something like ten to the parliament, twenty to you, and twenty to Esfort as an apology.”

“Are fines all this hefty…”

“No, it’s because this time was a special case. He caused an attack on a foreign country’s count. Even if it was actually his son that did it, it won’t change the circumstances. Not to mention, he’s one of this country’s MPs. He’ll have to part with quite the fortune.”

After that, they discussed other things that might happen in the parliament.

“Raden-san, Gossack-san, thank you very much.”

“It’s fine. You’re going to become my big bro. Fort should be coming here tomorrow too. He’s going to have to appear at the hearing.”

“All right. Then, see you then.”

Cain shook hands with the two of them, then left the guild, returning to the inn.

“What will His Majesty say about this…”

Thinking such thoughts, Cain fell asleep.

    1. bruh Tifana is the worst of all his wives. she might be a capable person what with being the captain of the knights and all, but she also forced Cain, who was like 10 when they met, to marry her, a fully grown adult, because “oh but he’s soooo stroooong”

      1. You’re acting like Tifana is actually a human which is not. She’s an elf with extremely long life span. They can basically have 3 or more husbands in their lifetime before they actually get physically old and die.

Or did you also forget that this dumbass Cain is literally a grown man already inside a shota’s body?

The more annoying ones here are those two kids that forced their way to Cain and continues to pester him acting like Cain was the one who asked for their hand in marriage. Author plays it as a joke but they’re always paranoid and too nosy that when they see a woman talking with Cain normally they would immediately send dagger stares at him, lecture him, accuse him as a womanizer, and make him kneel on the ground.

Unless you’re a masochist who likes kids so much then you probably love that yeah?

      2. Compared to the princess, Tifana is tame. Heck, she gets low screen/chapter time cause she’s actually working (since she’s an adult).

Also, using his age is a bit hard considering elves live long lives. If we were to convert it in human years it’d be like a 20 year old marrying an 80 year old (once Cain comes of age).

Actually, the fact that Cain is a demi-god means he’s able to live longer than his first two wives. Tifana can wait for Cain to be of age (which actually would be weird for a normal kid maybe?).

I only say that because political marriages are common in these sort of settings with low life expectancy. You had a fiancé before you were 18. Like we say in the beginning, Cain had his fiancés since he was 5.

  1. I think to avoid all this trouble he should’ve just accepted the apologies and didn’t try to get them punished by the full extent of the law. It’s a bit harsh of a punishment for what the mp’s son did. But no Cain just had to let things escalate, and create more enemies & trouble.

    1. He wanted to, but that dumb Maplh tried to talk him out of it before knowing he is a count. So yeah, they just lost their window of opportunity of forgiveness.

    2. Are you really fine with a person involved in other crimes such as kidnapping human trafficking go with just an apology after reading his connection with Corgino? That said person is kidnapping kids like its just shopping and selling them off to other countries to make more cash.

  2. Why is it that the author feels that everyone inside a guild would look at Cain EVERYTIME he enters a guild? Really?! Everyone would stop conversating stop eating to turn around and look at the front door EVERYTIME someone comes in?! Can you imagine sitting and eating at a table and watching this happen? I’m trying not to let this annoy me, starting to skip over paragraphs of Cain entering guilds. Sorry for pointing this out i hope it doesn’t annoy everyone else.

    1. Well I have read many stories and for some reason this kind of scene tends to happen quite often. So it’s not just this author that writes that way.

    2. I think in this world, the adventurers just all turn towards everybody who enters the room, as a matter of habit. Because they’re too used to being on guard against monsters. Or because they’re bored.
At least, unless it’s a busy hour.

  4. Hey Cain, at least you didn’t start it this time? They were the ones who started it and you simply responded and went through the correct procedures. Honestly, the king may be happy cause he gets 20 platinum coins out of nowhere and can hold this over Ilstin for political stuff.

  5. oof, i hope Malph didnt plot anything silly.
the fine is already his entire (or at least half) assets it seems.

    thank you for the chapters~
    stay safe and healthy everyone!

    1. Corgino did something significantly smaller in comparison. Malph is taking responsibility for attacking a count, while Corgina was taking responsibility for unnecessary summon.

In comparison, there is only culprit and victim here, but at that time, the one that went against the kings order was actually a third party, Cain, and therefore Cain should (and did, really) get a more severe punishment. Corgino had zero power to force Cain to follow through with those summons after all. He should have just said that it goes against the order of the king, then continue protecting the saintess.

        1. Don’t worry, I still read it 😉
But yes, it seems I misjudged what happened with the Saintess, Cain had all the power he needed to refuse that summon, but didn’t use it at all, and the consequences for that mistake could have even caused a big war.
The punishment “We didn’t plan to make you pay taxes this year, but now you have to” appeared quite insignificant at that time, but thinking about it again it should be more than the 10 platinum coins Corgino had to pay for that incident.
But on the same occasion Cain was promoted to Count, so it seemed more like a joke than a punishment…

  6. This is already 5 times the fine Corgino had to pay when he summoned Cain for nothing while he was on duty to protect the Saintess 😮
