“First, could you please explain the case?”

At the chairman’s words, a man who had been waiting stood up from his seat and began explaining.

“It began with an attack on Sir Silford, a count of the Kingdom of Esfort, currently sitting there, in the city of Ghazal.”

Just with that explanation, the MPs sitting in their seats raised a fuss. Given that a foreign country’s noble had been attacked inside their country, the news was sure to spread to other countries. So, they near-immediately understood what a serious case this was, especially when it came to the reputation of their country.

“Continuing on: While Sir Silford was attacked by five C-Rank adventurers registered in Ghazal, he repelled them. He then captured all of them.”

This time, cheers came from the MPs’ seats. No matter how one looked at him, he was still just a young boy. And he had repelled an attack from five full-fledged C-Rank adventurers. Gazes full of interest gathered on Cain.

“Then, when the adventurers were questioned, it was discovered that they had been requested to do so by the oldest son of Ghazal’s Member of Parliament, Mr. Malph Vandega, currently sitting over there, Ralph Vandega. We have already confirmed that he did indeed make such a request to the guild.”

The oldest son of an MP had orchestrated an attack on a foreign noble.

Any of the people sitting in the MPs’ seats would easily understand what that meant.

It had the same meaning as ‘Starting a war’.

The MPs all gulped.

“Objection! Chairman, may I speak?”

The person on Malph’s side raised his hand and stood up.

“Very well, you may speak.”

With the chairman’s permission, the man opened his mouth.

“Ralph Vandega’s request was only to ‘Please threaten him a little.’, nothing more. He made no savage and uncivilised requests such as to attack him or use violence. The adventurers simply had their own intentions; and that is why Ralph Vandega has no connection to the attack.”

“Sir Silford, I apologise, but could you please explain to us what happened during the attack?”

Making eye contact with Fort for a split second, Cain nodded and stood up.

“Yes, chairman. So, I will explain. I was being attacked in an alley, when they suddenly pulled out their swords on me. While they did indeed declare they ‘Wouldn’t kill me’, they did say they ‘Would take an arm’. Luckily, I am an adventurer as well, so I was able to repel them, but if it had been someone else in my stead… I doubt it would have ended with light wounds.”

Finishing his speech, Cain sat down.

Then, one of the MPs raised their hand. The chairman gave them permission, and they stood up and started speaking.

“Firstly, I have a question: Sir Silford repelled five C-Rank adventurers. While he may also have registered as an adventurer, how can a boy who is not even an adult yet defeat five people? Were there other people there?”

All of the MPs must have been of the same mind. Cain looked like a simple teenage boy. Moreover, the fact that he was the head of a noble family was also suspicious. They would be able to understand if he was the son of a noble though.

“I will tell you about that.”

Fort raised his hand and stood up.

“I am Fort, the adventurers’ guild’s Ghazal branch’s sub-guild-master. In the Kingdom of Esfort’s adventurers’ guild, Sir Silford is registered as –– an S-Rank adventurer. The whole guild is aware of this, and I am also confident that it is correct.”

At Fort’s words, exclamations that had not been said until then came from the MPs.

An S-Rank adventurer.

No matter who one asked, they would easily understand the meaning of that.

They were near the strongest beings in every country, with enough power to defeat a dragon single-handedly, or in some cases in parties.

It meant he had equivalent power to Garms, said to be the strongest in the Republic of Ilstin.

Too bad for the people who had attacked him. That was all there was to it.

Convinced, the MP who had asked the question sat back down.

“Then, I shall continue to explain. As after the attack, the client was revealed near immediately, they held a discussion in the guild. At that time, MP Malph Vandega, not knowing that Sir Silford was the head of a noble family, invoked the MP’s special right. But, as Sir Silford is the head of a noble family, it was made invalid. That will be all for the explanation.”

Sighs came from the MPs at that explanation.

The MP’s special right was, well, special. It was a disgrace to invoke it and have it made invalid due to not looking into the other party’s identity.

“All right… Then, the judgement. I have compared this case with similar ones in the past. First, the five adventurers will be made into criminal slaves. Then, the client, Ralph Vandega. As you are still underage, you are exempt from being made a criminal slave. However, once you come of age, you will serve and work as a criminal slave for five years. Then, bearing responsibility as his guardian, Malph Vandega will be relieved of his duties as member of Parliament. As reparations for this event, he will also pay twenty platinum coins to Sir Silford, who is a noble of the Kingdom of Esfort, which will thus also receive twenty platinum coins as an apology for the trouble, and he will also pay ten platinum coins to the Republic of Ilstin.”

The total fine was fifty platinum coins, which was equivalent to five-hundred-million Yen (~4 588 600 $).

The compensation for such a petty request. Moreover, Malph would not be able to use the same special right again.

Ralph looked downwards, his face deathly pale.

Malph glared angrily at Cain with a face as if he had just swallowed something really sour.

“I declare this case closed. Please leave.”

Cain and the others stood up and headed to the door they had entered through.

Glaring at his back, Malph muttered ‘You just wait.’ and also left in a huff.

◇◇◇

The Esfortean students and teachers spent the time until the judgement was announced in the audience seats with serious faces.

They had had plans to see what kind of parliament it was, but the one who appeared in front of them in the court was Cain, who was visiting Ilstin with them.

The teachers hadn’t been told the details about what had happened by Cain either. His reason for doing something different had been ‘Work as the head of a noble family’ as well.

“Cain-sama was attacked…”

Telestia clenched her hands tightly, at which Silk put her hand on her shoulder to reassure her.

“Don’t worry Teles. It’s Cain-kun. Just think of when he saved us. He’ll be fine no matter what.”

“…yeah, thank you, Silk. I feel a little better now… but still…”

The two of them looked at each other and nodded.

““He will have to reflect on this.””

Once again unknown to Cain, a meeting where he would have to reflect on his actions was decided upon.

  1. People would expect more from these two Idiotic Girls but nope, Author make Them very dumb. The only reality result if MC will ever get from reflecting this would be to annul the Engagements, who wouldn’t accept such Monster as Son-in-law in other Countries🙈 also that one who say power cannot resolve everything clearly don’t understand what “absolute power” truly is😬 Does MC need to one shot a strong kingdom for these Two Idiot Girls to understand MC’s Power??? Surely not, right☠️

    1. Nah. Even if they didn’t provoke him, I think something would still have happened.

I mean, the girls from the other classes even went up to Cain on their own (none appeared to have been interested in Ralph).

Just think of it as a noble mans pride and even if the girls didn’t spur it by holding his arms, I think the fact that Cain had 3 beautiful girls while, Ralph, a noble son to the PM wasn’t considered.

Well, if you were a king of country and have someone like cain. You would wanted him to have self restraints. Idk, i’m not a king. But, looking at his power and position. It could become war

    1. This time around, I’d say its more that while they know he’s strong, they also still worry about him (even if it doesn’t make sense).

Kinda like Lois Lane worrying about Clark even though he’s Superman. You can never really tell what will happen and power doesn’t always settle things (especially when it comes to nobles and politics).

  5. Yeah I’m getting kind of sick of this guy being ‘punished’ by his fiance’s. Especially for things they know aren’t his doing it’s not like he’s going out and looking for trouble. As they clearly stated during the hearing he was attacked. But despite this he’s being punished. They are his fiance is not his mother’s and he’s the one here with an official title as a count he has to perform Noble duties when they arise and they arise often especially for him.

    1. I’m getting really sick and tired of cane being ‘punished’ by his fiance’s. They make it sound like Kane is just going out and collecting women or going out and looking for trouble. They’re his fiance is not his mother’s they need to piss off. Plus Kane is the one here with an official title as a count he has to perform Noble duties and Noble duties arise all the time out of nowhere especially for him they should be used to this by now. They basically treat him more like a disobedient puppy than their future husband.

  6. AHHHH!! Please let me inside the story and give a good lunch to teles’s face. Why do the father and daughter think that everything’s Cain fault even though most often than not he’s the one being assaulted. I would rather Cain just annul the engagement between him and teles and leave the stupid kingdom. It’s not worth it, definitely not.

    1. I think the problem stems more from the fact that he didn’t tell them that he had been attacked instead of him putting himself in danger or anything of the sort. I mean they both know he is strong and that practically nothing could hurt him, otherwise they wouldn’t want him working as an adventurer. The funny thing is that they aren’t aware that he is going to have to fight an evil god who in all honesty is probably the only thing that could hurt him and yet again he is hiding that fact from them so when it comes to light that he knew about the evil god being unleashed a long time before it happened and that he would have to fight him then that lecture he is going to receive is going to be brutal.

And I agree with yakuze – honoru. It’s honestly a bit of a turn off when the girls keep doing stuff like that. I get that you are worried about cain and all but punishment again? like what did he do wrong? he just didn’t say anything because he could solve it by himself and didn’t want the others to worry…

Honestly the harem is just there it doesn’t help with anything, they can’t help him in anyway because cain is made just that OP and he has OP people working under him or with him. It would help if they were more considerate honestly. they are getting more and more annoying. I honestly only like silk coz she’s smart and sharp and tifana coz she’s a battle junkie…the others um not so much no comment.

    1. Ok, so pretend you’re a normal person in a medieval society. How do you identify a foreign noble vs someone pretending to be a noble? The answer comes in three parts. First, nobles behave a certain way. They have manners, they share behaviors that people expect from nobles, they act ‘above’ or ‘below’ according to who they are talking to.

Second, nobles have servants. If someone claims to be a noble from their own mouth, feel free to doubt them. If they show you some document or ‘proof’ of nobility … why do you know what that is? Who trained you to identify such a thing? Especially if it is a noble from a different culture? Trinkets only have meaning to people that know about them. Documents can be forged, and forgeries are easier to pass off when people know about them but have no experience with the real thing. Like if someone handed you a 10,000 dollar bill … do you even know what a real 10,000 dollar bill looks like? As long as the fake doesn’t look shoddy it should fool most people even if the president and back art are wrong.

I went off topic there, sort of. Anyways, if a guy approaches you alone feel free to doubt them. But when a group of servants approach (and they are dressed like servants of a noble) and tell you that “Such and Such noble is approaching, prepare yourselves to receive him.” you can’t afford not to believe them. The higher a noble, the larger their entourage is. The accepted proof of a noble requires pomp and circumstance. Think of a noble as a ringmaster. Nobody is going to believe you are a ringmaster if you aren’t surrounded by carnies, entertainers and clowns. A baron might only have a few men, but it will be enough that one guy will let you know they are traveling with a baron. And a count should be traveling with bodyguards, servants and coachmen even if all he is doing is crossing the street.

The last way to tell a noble is a noble is the way they and their servants are dressed. Though, this is the most flawed method. Rich people can afford expensive clothing. While it was illegal in the vast majority of societies to dress above your station, some rich people had enough influence to get away with it. When you are bankrolling the local lord, you expect him to overlook small things like dress codes. Gain enough influence and you break those codes to show how powerful you are. Part of dressing for your station is also making sure your servants are dressed according to their station. Servants of affluent houses are expected to be dressed in the manner of a servant, but the more affluent houses would expect to use better cloth, richer dyes, embroidery, and wear appropriate but expensive accessories. The uniform of a duke’s servant might cost more to produce than an outfit that is acceptable for a Baron to wear to court.

When nobles travel incognito, it is expected to treat them in the manner that they disguise themselves. If the King disguises himself as a beggar, he would be considered magnanimous if he forgave a group of peasants from offending him when his identity is revealed. If he had them executed as Lessee Majesty in the same situation, he would be considered to be acting inappropriately. When disguised acts below your station should be ignored. Bringing up your station after the fact is entrapment.

After all, if anyone knew you were a noble, they would act appropriately to avoid trouble. Now you are causing trouble by hiding and then insisting on using your title. Sure you’d rather they were good people for the sake of being good … but now you’re punishing people for looking down on their “inferiors”? By flexing your “superior” title? It might be a lesser degree, but that is the same sort of wrong.

      1. The only problem with that is that Cain was identified as the fiancé to a princess and a duke’s daughter. No one would believe that someone engaged to them wouldn’t hold some special status, in his own country. They might not believe that he had high status himself, but they would believe that at least his father was powerful. Furthermore, they know that the visiting group is a special class from a neighboring country. The minute the attack was found out, it would become an international incident, regardless of his identity, because the class includes two different princesses and other children of nobles. The attack would be seen as an affront to their and their county’s honor. This also ignores the fact that countries have their own information networks. They would take the time to know who was coming and what their standing were. They would be aware that the young boy Cain is the head of a noble house, because it stands out. They would have done research on him etc. They would have known some of his connections. Any official with half a brain would have warned their children not to mess with the foreign visitors for obvious reasons.

I’m personally getting a little tired of the “everything is Cain’s fault” punchline that keeps being repeated.
I am still thankful for the translation.

But still them thinking that they can just punish him, have secret meeting deciding things for him, and even just kicking him out of his own places is why I wouldn’t go harems. Lol 😭 girls like this just kill the whole thing for me.

    1. It’s not the harems fault, it’s the protagonists fault. For some unknown reason, they never have any backbone when it comes to deal with their harem members. If Cain didn’t do anything wrong (and he didn’t, he was the victim, and last I checked, victims aren’t asked for their permission to be victimized upon), he should just tell them off.

Especially since THEY are the major reason as to why it happened, with their bragging about Cain being their fiancee to Ralph. If anything, it’s Cain that should have a talk with THEM, to mind the time and place, instead of humiliating random influential nobles and their sons sons.

      1. I think ya’ll are digging too deep… everything was a pretext for this plot to happen, Cain never identifies himself as the head of a noble family or an S-rank adventurer, even if his fiancées indeed bragged about him, why wouldn’t they? specially since it was obvious that other guy wanted to try and get close to them with ulterior motives.

Imagine if they said nothing and he began flirting with them and they didn’t clear any misunderstanding or say anything… people would be DOUBLE PISSED that they never mentioned Cain.

They just stated the truth AS FAR AS CAIN ALLOWED THEM TO STATE IT, because even if they made clear they had a fiancée, they also didn’t say the things that Cain doesn’t like mentioned.

And why should Cain say anything to them about disclosing his relationship with them??? he’s their fiancée… it’s like asking your girlfriend “keep it secret” that would be a terrible lack of respect for her and your relationship!

        1. > even if his fiancées indeed bragged about him, why wouldn’t they?

They are in a foreign country, with Cain being unknown there, and they are publicly hit upon by a guy with excessive ego (as is clear from how he talked to them and how he bragged about his fathers position).

It’s only obvious that ending up flirting with Cain in response to his attempts at wooing them is risking trouble coming in return.

          > specially since it was obvious that other guy wanted to try and get close to them with ulterior motives.

What ulterior motives?! There is nothing clear about any of that. All three of them are said to be beautiful girls, while what he said in no way suggested he was only interested in their money/power. All that was ‘clear’ is that he was trying to flirt them up. And that in itself is not ulterior motive.

          > Imagine if they said nothing and he began flirting with them and they didn’t clear any misunderstanding or say anything…

I didn’t say that they should keep their mouths shut. I said that they shouldn’t brag about Cain. They should stop at telling him that they have a fiancee and that it is a relationship based on love, not an arranged marriage. Without having a target to fume at, the brat wouldn’t really be able to do anything.

          > he’s their fiancée… it’s like asking your girlfriend “keep it secret” that would be a terrible lack of respect for her and your relationship!

No one is telling them to ‘keep it secret’. But that is a world of nobility and politics, with ALL three of them feeling the full brunt of it. Cain shouldn’t even have to tell them anything, THEY should be smart enough to not place a frigging big target on Cain’s head. It is another thing entirely in the kingdom of Esfort where people already know about Cain being such an important person (well, the nobles do, that is). It’s another thing when meeting an egocentric, arrogant person in a foreign country that has no clue about the reality around him.

It is irrelevant how much they love him and how much they are happy being able to show that. If they act in a manner that provokes attacks on Cain, they can only blame themselves for it. Life ain’t fair, least of which in a nobles world. If Cain wasn’t this super-powerful person, he’d already be dead because of them, long before this entire trip, yet they don’t seem to learn.

          Like

      2. They’re high ranking nobility and are used for political marriages all the time. The guy requested that they remain in contact after they leave the country. It had to be made clear that they are already engaged and to whom so everyone knows they are completely unavailable. This is also why it was beneficial for Cain to wait until the engagement was announced to respond to all the proposals he received. That way he can show proof of his engagement. The girls also have no reason to hide it as noble engagements are public knowledge and would stop more proposals from coming. Also, Cain’s drive to hide his status whether noble or adventurer rank are constantly putting him into situations where if he were upfront from the start, he wouldn’t find himself in those situations.

        Like

        1. Cain does not hide his noble status from nobles at all. He only does that from commoners, especially when he is running around as an adventurer.

There was no need for them to specify Cain. Especially in a country and to people that DO NOT KNOW HIM. Stating that they are fiancees of someone and that it is a relationship based on love, or hell, saying that they are engaged to the head of a count family, is more than enough, without planting a target on Cain.

Cain witheld responses due to the announcement not being possible made officially, due to his insufficient status. He could not use that response, but at the same time, he could not really ‘offend’ other nobles, without causing troubles to himself. And yet here, we have two princesses and a dukes daughter that happily go and cause problems by doing the exact reverse. Making it clear they are engaged to him, but NOT making it clear that he is actually of a high standing. The kid thought that Cain is AT MOST a nobles kid, which wouldn’t even make him a noble in the first place (until he’d inherit the title in the future, if he’d be the first in line for it). It’s only reasonable to expect that when not knowing about him.

Basically, they put him in the same state he was actively avoiding (by order, even)…being a low-end kid marrying up. The reality being different (well, he is still marrying ‘upwards’ in social ladder), him being a count himself, is not relevant unless it’s known.

            You said “it’s their fault”… it’s not…

You’re giving this a WHOLE LOT OF LOOPS to make them take the blame, and I can’t help but see a glint of something behind all this because it’s weird that you blame them for doing what a person would normally do on that situation…

everything ok at home there honey?

            Like

            1. …Eh…What?! Hitting on a girl is an ulterior motive?! Since friggin when?!!!

Hitting on a girl just to drag her to bed is an ulterior motive. Hitting on her just to use her money is an ulterior motive. But hitting on them to go out and possibly marry just for the sake of being together is NOT an ulterior motive! Ulterior motive, by definition, is something that is hidden, a secret. If you say “I’m a better husband candidate” to somebody, there’s nothing hidden about you wanting to marry that person!!!

              > You said “it’s their fault”… it’s not…

No, I didn’t. You should pay attention when reading, at least, if you intend to respond to somebody.

What I did write is “THEY are the major reason as to why it happened”. This is a fact. Remove what they did from the equation, and this wouldn’t have happened. This is NOT the same as saying it’s their fault. It’s a simple concept of cause and effect.
The fault lies entirely with the snobbish brat that can’t take ‘no’ from a girl with honor. BUT he was only in the position to make that faulty decision because those three gave him the opportunity. If you forget your wallet at a supermarket and another client snatches it, they are in the wrong, they are the thieves. Not you. But they wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do it if you paid attention to your belongings. Hence why I said that Cain should talk with them about “time and place”, and not ‘accuse them of being the ones at fault’ or something like that.

              > it’s weird that you blame them for doing what a person would normally do on that situation…

And that’s why some people end up miserable. Where there is free will, ‘ideal world’ does not exist. People that cannot mind the time and place for their actions and words need luck to go ahead peacefully, because emotions like jealousy and greed exist. They ignored the existence of these and fueled the flames of an arrogant kid whose position they DID know (after all, he made it a point to inform them of it…this is already a big, red light for anyone with a sliver of healthy wariness). Hence the result. Being right or doing the ‘normal thing’ does not mean what you’re doing won’t bite you in the end.

              > everything ok at home there honey?

I’d rather you worry about yourself first. Especially since you seem to need it more than I do.
