While Cain had become a margrave and now governed territory other than Drintor as well, life for him hadn’t really changed.

The territory couldn’t just be transferred over to him like that, and presently, deputy governors and inspectors had been dispatched from the royal capital to examine the conditions of the towns, and Cain would take over once the results were in.

“I’m going to be more busy from now on…”

Duke Eric had told him he was free to attend school as he pleased, but it was plain to see that Telestia and Silk would get angry if he didn’t.

Which was why he decided to himself to go to school as much as he could.

While he was thinking thus and reading documents in his office, there came a knock on the door.

Having been given permission to go in, Darmeshia and Lisabeth entered the room.

Lisabeth sat down on the sofa and Darmeshia placed a cup of tea in front of her once he had finished making it.

Bringing the cup to her mouth, she blew on it to cool it down then started speaking.

“Cain, I think it’s about time for me to go back to my country. It’s nice and cosy here, and the food is delicious as well, so I’d like to stay as long as I can, but… I really will start causing trouble then.”

Hearing those words, Cain stopped his work and sat down facing Lisabeth.

In all honesty, even with Lisabeth added, he wasn’t spending all that much, money-wise.

With Darmeshia’s considerate treatment and how she had fun with Lula and Laura, he hadn’t been all that bothered either.

However, quite the number of days had passed since she had come to Drintor from the Republic of Ilstin.

Including her life in the Republic of Ilstin, she had been absent from her country for quite the long time.

“…Yeah, that’s true. Your parents must be worried as well, so you really should go back.”

Lisabeth nodded lightly at Cain’s words, her expression as if she had just swallowed something sour.

“…And then, well… I was wondering if you could go with me?”

Darmeshia, who had been standing behind Cain in waiting, also stepped forward and lowered his head.

“Cain-sama, if you could assist Lisabeth-sama…”

For Cain, Darmeshia lowering his head like this and asking for something had never happened before.

So, he felt quite uncomfortable.

“––Could you please tell me the details then?”

Cain wasn’t unwilling to go to the country of demons.

He knew Seto, the Demon King. And while he hadn’t been to Seto’s country, he had been wanting to go.

Moreover, he knew that as a margrave, he would only get busier as time passed, so if he were to go, it could only be now.

“––We will get nowhere if I don’t explain. Firstly, the reason why I left the country––––”

Lisabeth explained why she had left her country.

She had a brother, an older brother to be precise, but she didn’t get along with him.

It was just the two of them, with the question of who would take over the country, and her older brother, in order to make certain that it was him, had been maneuvering to try to get Lisabeth married to a Demon King of another country.

Moreover, the person he was trying to get her married to was not only quite far away age-wise, but also had many wives already.

So, as Lisabeth didn’t want that, she had left.

“Huh, weren’t demons monogamous…?”

Previously, Seto had told him that they were monogamous.

“Cain-sama, demons differ from country to country as well. There are only two Demon Countries that are monogamous. By the way, Lisabeth-sama’s empire is polygamous.”

Cain nodded at Darmeshia’s explanation.

“I don’t really want to go back, but… I left the country without permission. Also…”

Lisabeth’s expression darkened a little.

“I’ll talk about that. Actually, it seems there was a disguised demon there when you saved Lisabeth-sama, Cain-sama… It seems they immediately returned to the Empire and made a report. And then –––– the Empire’s higher-ups…”

“Have they come here to look for her…?”

Lisabeth nodded apologetically at the surprised Cain.

Cain wondered why they would conduct such a full-scale search for just one person, even if she was an Imperial Princess.

“Cain-sama, Lisabeth-sama’s country, the Benestos Empire, is completely different to other demon nations. In other countries, they name someone the ‘Demon King’ based on strength. However, only in the Benestos Empire, only the Imperial bloodline is taken into account, and the head of the country is called the ‘Demon Emperor’, and has the authority to approve the naming of each country’s Demon King. Also, the Empire has a history thousands of years long.”

Cain sighed at Darmeshia’s explanation.

(That much history…So they’re the same as the king, no, the Japanese Imperial Family from my previous life… So that’s why Darmeshia went down on one knee when they first met…)

However, they would make no progress if they just talked to each other there.

“––I know! I’ll summon Seto!”

If he summoned Seto, the head of a Demon Country, he might be able to grasp better what was going on with the demons, so he chanted the summoning magic.

Seto appeared along with a magic formation.

It had been a long time since Cain had last summoned Seto, but his expression was different from normal.

“Cain-sama, it has been a long time. However, there’s quite a serious affair going on for all demons currently.”

Seto appeared, looking as if he was just about to engage in a battle.

“We have something big going on too. So I thought I’d consult with you…”

Seto considered Cain’s words for a bit, then nodded.

“Then I’ll try and help… A very important thing to humans––––”

Seto glanced at Lisabeth, who was sitting facing Cain ––and froze.

His eyes widened in surprise as he made an extremely shocked expression.

Then, he turned to look at Cain with robotic movements that seemed like they would start squeaking any moment.

“W-w-why is Lisabeth-sama here…?”

Cain gestured for the upset Seto to sit down next to him, but Seto went down on one knee instead, bowing his head.

“Lisabeth-sama, a good day to you. It has been a long time…”

Lisabeth smiled in an imperial-princess-like fashion at Seto’s attitude.

“Seto-sama, long time no see. I believe since when you assumed your office as demon king?”

“Y-Yes! On a different topic, why are you here…? Currently, all demons have been rounded up to search for you, Lisabeth-sama…”

“Seto-sama, sit down first. I will explain…”

Seto nodded at Lisabeth’s words and sat down next to Cain.

Then, Lisabeth explained what had happened to her after she left the empire, making Seto surprised, then angry, then relieved as he listened, in that order.

Once the explanation was over, Seto leaned back against the backrest of his chair.

“So then… the serious affair on your end, Seto, is…?”

As if he had just remembered at Cain’s words, Seto opened his mouth.

“Actually, all demon nations… will be –––– declaring war on all human nations…”

Those shocking words came out of Seto’s mouth.
