“Well then, let’s depart.”

Having stayed the night there, Cain and the others departed from Silbesta. The bishop and Ragnaf also had a conversation during breakfast. Cain had not thought their conversation would continue for that long, and he just chimed in with occasional ‘Aha’s and ‘Mhm’s so as not to let any harm reach him.

After finishing breakfast, they were to depart from Silbesta.

Count Ragnaf had offered to accompany them to the border, but the bishop had turned him down, and he reluctantly saw them off at the town’s entrance.

“But still, Sir Ragnaf really is a zealous believer… One could nearly even call him fanatic…”

Cain nodded with a bitter smile at the bishop’s words. In fact, after dinner the day before, Ragnaf and the bishop had gone to a different room and had a heated conversation about Marinefordism over some light alcohol.

Cain was quite relieved he hadn’t been there.

The carriage continued towards Marineford, and half a day or so later, they were approaching the bridge on the border.

Not stopping, the carriage proceeded through Marineford, and after camping for one night on the way, they arrived in a city.

The white houses of Marineford made for a basic and subdued cityscape. The bishop explained how there was a church in the centre of every town, and that a civil official administered the town as a deputy governor.

They, and the bishops and priests from the church governed the cities and all monitored each other in order to prevent corruption.

“This is the city of Jenasee. We’ll arrive at the main temple in about three days from here. Let us head to the church first.”

The bishop gave the instruction to the temple knights, who led the carriage there.

The bishop and the temple knights would be staying the night in the church, while Cain and the other adventurer bodyguards would be staying in an inn.

The carriage stopped in front of the church, out of which came a number of priests and sisters.

“Bishop Harnam, it must have been a tiring and long trip. We have prepared a room for you, please come this way.”

“Mhm, thank you for letting me stay here. Cain-dono, here is okay. It will be fine if you come to pick me up tomorrow.”

“Yes, Bishop-sama. Since we have finally reached a church, might I pray, if possible?”

The bishop nodded, smiling.

“That’s quite the splendid devotion for an adventurer. Then, please show adventurer-dono inside.”

Cain was shown inside the church by a priest. Both the church’s structure and scale was basically the same as that of the ones he knew. Drintor’s church had been built quite big, as the previous priest there had flaunted his authority, and since it hadn’t been torn down, it was still used as it had been.

Its size was just perfect when compared with Drintor’s current size, and they had made its inside more modest, and currently, unlike before, many residents visited the church in Drintor every day for prayer or healing, and it had become quite the lively place.

Cain knelt down before the altar, clasped his hands together, and began praying.

At the same time, the world turned white.

“Cain, it’s been a long time since we last saw each other. Seems like you’re living a non-boring life, as always.”

“–– It has been a long time. I’m getting caught up in all sorts of things. As always.”

Cain stood up, then sat down in an empty seat.

“We’ve been having fun watching you though. That fight against Aaron’s psyche was splendid. Although I would never have thought he had regained consciousness that much… And we can’t do anything. And while we have connections, Yuuya is the god of a different world now. Cain. You are the only one we can rely on now.”

“…Understood. If it’s within the limits of what I can do, I’ll take care of it. So what do you want to ask of me…”

“Yeah, it is about you going to meet the Saint. But Lime can explain that.”

Sitting next to him, Lime nodded slowly.

“Firstly, regarding the murder of Marineford’s pope, spies from the Baisas Empire did it. It seems they stole a lot of jewels from the treasury. Well, that person who was the pope believed in his own way, and sometimes even received my words as an oracle. But more importantly, Hinata. The new pope will be elected in a short while, but there are some among the candidates who have no belief in us. If one of them becomes pope, I won’t be able to give out an oracle any more..”

Having the unexpected truth explained to him by Lime, Cain became even more puzzled. He was just going to meet Hinata. And, hiding his status as a noble, he was going as an adventurer who was the bishop’s bodyguard.

Even if he was told that the ones who had killed the pope had been Baisasean spies, it was not like he could do anything about it. On the contrary, if he did, he wouldn’t be able to explain his actions.

And if he said something like ‘The gods told me’, not being able to show any proof, the only ones who would believe him were the upper echelons of Esfort and the bishop he was accompanying.

“So that’s what it was… So, god-samas, which person do you think should be the new pope?”

If the gods approved of someone as pope, Cain was also willing to support that person.

While Cain had no actual power to do so, he still thought he could convey the gods’ words to Hinata.

“We do not have the right to decide that. However, someone who believes in us would be better, if possible. And that would be––.”

Lime thought about it a little, her hand on her chin, before naming one person.

“If they become the new pope, I’ll be able to keep giving oracles. Their relationship with Hinata seems good too.”

Those words were a decisive factor for Cain. No matter how much they believed, if their relationship with Hinata was bad, he would not support them, nor trust them.

He had given Hinata an Item to protect her in case of emergency, but if she ever had to use it, it would mean she was in serious trouble.

Hoping that such a time didn’t come, Cain engraved the name Lime told him into his heart.

  1. You’re telling me that these so-called gods don’t have the right to decide who’s going to be the pope of their own friggin religion?! How does that even work?!

  2. “E se dissesse algo como ‘Os deuses me disseram’, não podendo apresentar nenhuma prova, só acreditariam nele os altos escalões de Esfort e o bispo que acompanhava.”
Quando cair vai aprender o poder que o titulo de ” aposto dos deuses” tem mds kkk

  3. …. but you are in a position to stop it though -_-

And frankly…. is there any real point in hiding your identity at this point??? You are already known as an over powered noble to almost everyone and have some of the highest status with fiancees of the highest status…

Like, seriously…. at this point, it’d make your life easier if you just released your status.

    Thanks for the chapter XD

    1. Think of yourself as spiderman(or any other superhero) would you reveal to the world that you are spiderman so your enemies can threaten your loved ones or the people important to you? No,absolutely not. Also even if you beat your enemies in your country. Will that stop the other country’s villain from attacking your family? No
It’s also like revealing your weakness

      1. Not all superheroes, at least not in the MCU. Everyone knows the real identity of Iron Man, or Captain America, or Hulk, or Falcon, etc. In the MCU version, Spiderman’s true identity is kept secret because he is still underage.

        1. MCU is a travesty of the wonderfully crafted world of Comics that haves being structured over DECADES…

The reason Spiderman didn’t show his identity has always being because of Aunt May, Mary Jane and all the people around him, always, to protect the people close to him that have no powers, full stop.

Same thing with “most” of the other people, in universe “Iron Man” was an outlier, CA had no one to protect and still maintained his identity secret because of propaganda and imagery, (there were over 10 different people that have taken officially the CA name in the comics) Hulk was a science experiment gone wrong…

It was “not” public knowledge like how the movies painted it and they stole most of the civil war events from the X-Men mutant registry event… to tie the universes together…

I understand that the movies are wonderfully crafted pieces of media that have their own logic, but most of it is surface level because they can’t go into detail as other media are able to for the lack of TIME, we’re talking about plot devices and set ups that spanned the length of decades watered down to around 10 hours…

If you scratch a bit, it makes NO SENSE to publicize to everyone their real persona, but that was somewhat forced in the movie because if not it wouldn’t have being able to be presented… hell, Wakanda was a secret for over 15 in universe years… there was no representation as it was portrayed in the movie… it was a quasi “Amazon kingdom” well veiled secret country…

You’re taking the most surface of surface level examples trying to identify the flaw in logic, when the actual flawed portrayal were the movies…

      2. This is more like Superman revealing his identity to the world. Does that mean Clark Kent’s associates will be targeted by Superman’s enemies? Sure. But it also means people who can’t afford to mess with Superman will avoid messing with Clark’s associates.

If Cain stopped hiding his power and just showed off his status to the cardinals he could bully them into narrowing down the candidates to the actual faithful. Heck, he could kick out the non believer cardinals if he really pushed it. Or he could make a vague threat to name the cardinals that can receive oracles if they don’t all vote for his choice. The non-believer cardinals should catch on to the implied threat quickly.

Once people know that Cain is not only an Apostle of all the gods, but also a demigod in his own right, only people that feel like they can fight the gods should be willing to antagonize him. But no, he is just some kid nobody has herd of before so people mess with him. Then they find out he is a S-rank adventurer/margrave because that is what entertains the Author.

      3. Hiding his identity has pretty much nothing to do with him protecting his loved ones (who are all nobility and mostly protected) and everything to do with him wanting to live a “normal” double life. It was already established that his status as an apostle and a demigod would put him above everyone in existence and they would all have to bow down to him, even royalty. He can literally destroy a country with little effort. His need to hide everything for no real reason other than his desire to live a normal life and not draw attention is why he goes around all, “I’m here as an adventurer not as a noble.” He then ends up drawing even more attention to himself anyway. By this point it has become silly as in every arc, him withholding his identities always causes more problems than if he were just straight up. The majority of this story wouldn’t be here if he wasn’t always hiding his identity and causing people to dismiss, look down on, underestimate and misunderstand him.

        1. Agree. Maybe the author has run out of ideas, what kind of problems the MC has to face. So he used the same method (“problem that comes because he hide everything to live a normal life and not draw attention” things) over and over again every volume.

      4. Yah, no; it’s not at all comparable.

In fact, he was in trouble SPECIFICALLY because he refused to use his identity.

And I’m not saying that he needs to tell every single person… but against higher class beings, it’d be useful.

Showing his status is more like using his identity to protect his loved ones.

It’s more of a weapon that has value when it’s used right.

    2. I agree as well, I also thought that he should just say he’s a rank S and stop hiding that, but maybe keep hiding the fact he’s a demigod and maybe that he’s a margrave as well tbh.

      1. At this point, is there any point??? He’s already known by many to be OP and his high status isn’t much of a secret anyways.

His status can solve more problems than it causes when used on the right people.
