“Thank you very much.”

Having finished talking with the gods and his consciousness returning to his body, Cain stood up, gave the sister a bit more than the customary donation, and leaving the church, he joined up with Claude and the others. They would be going to their inn and relaxing there until the next morning.

Leaving their horses in the stables of the inn, which was a little ways away from the church, Cain and the others checked in and then went to their rooms.

Cain was in the same room as Claude.

“Anyway, to think I’d get to do a request with you again, Cain. Well, at least I’ll have peace of mind now, whatever may happen. I won’t be scared even if a Dragon appeared.”

Claude laughed brightly while taking off his equipment and changing into rough clothes. As there was no way Cain could wear his noble’s clothes, he also put on some everyday clothes that had been prepared for him.

Claude also understood that Cain was the strongest adventurer in that world. And he was also a higher-ranking noble, a margrave. Still, Cain felt grateful to Claude, who didn’t change his attitude even knowing that, and talked with him like he would with a friend. Although there was the condition of Lina not being there in order for that to happen.

“There really is no way I could enter the Holy Country as a noble if I didn’t submit an application first. This way is easier.”

Cain could easily return to the royal capital or Drintor, but he wasn’t going to return unless it was an emergency. And if anything bad happened to Lisabeth, who was in Drintor, Darmeshia could come into contact with him.

And since he was staying in the same room as Claude, who didn’t know he could use transfer magic, on this trip, Cain couldn’t just casually show it off to him.

As the two of them chatted, they left the room and headed down to the cafeteria, where Milly, Nina, and Lina were already sitting around a table.

“You’re late! Honestly, you’re boys, yet it takes you so long to get ready.”

Seemingly having been unable to wait any more, Lina was already drinking from her cup. Milly and Nina waved to them, chuckling.

“Sorry to have made you wait. I was just talking with Claude-san…”

Cain bowed lightly, then sat down in the empty seat between Milly and Nina. They were sitting around the table in the order Lina, Claude, Milly, Cain, and Nina.

“Cain’s a minor, so juice for him. Add an ale and juice please!”

Claude called out to the waiter to add drinks to their order. Lina had already ordered the food.

The drinks were brought over soon after, and after they had been put down in front of everyone, they all made a toast.

“A toast for having arrived in the Holy Country safely, for now at least! Cheers!”

““““Cheers!””””

They lightly bumped their cups together, then drank from them.

“The holy capital is only three days away; I wonder if we’ll be able to relax a little once we get there.”

They would be on bodyguard duty during the one week to the holy capital, the ten-day stay there, and the way back afterwards. Normally, they would only have work on the trip there, but they were currently the bishop’s bodyguards, and the request had included the trip back as well, since they were trusted adventurers.

Since they would be accompanying the bishop for a long time, it would cost an equivalent amount, but the Kingdom was the one paying a majority of the money, so it was quite the attractive request for Claude and the others.

“By the way, I heard earlier that this area has become a little dangerous lately. Apparently, carriages belonging to the church were attacked.”

“Eh!? In the Holy Country!?”

As per its name, the Holy Country of Marineford was a country mainly operated on the Marineford religion. All of its inhabitants were zealous believers. That included even the farmers.

And so, if a carriage belonging to the church was attacked there, it would obviously become an important affair for the Holy Country.

“Well… aren’t the pope elections coming up? Priests and bishops are gathering from all countries here, so there are going to be a few that are attacked. Companies’ carriages should also be taking damage.”

“…That’s where it gets fishy. If someone’s interfering with the elections… I’m overthinking it. There’s no way a cardinal would be connected to thieves.”

Claude fell into thought at Lina’s words. Similarly, Lime’s words came to Cain’s mind.

(What if a cardinal arranged it…? No, that would be too difficult. Cardinals are nearly always in the main temple, and such information can’t get in there. Then, just how the…?)

Their conversation continued without an answer being found.

“It’s three days to the head temple, we might also be targeted. We’ll have to keep our guards up…”

“Well, that’s true, but we –– have Cain. There’s no way we could lose… in the first place.”

““That’s true.””

Milly and Nina agreed with Claude’s words. To people who knew Cain’s power, challenging a Dragon would be preferable to challenging him.

They also knew that it would be the same even if one had hundreds of allies. The people at the table had all experienced the attack on the way back from the Republic of Ilstin.

They had witnessed Cain’s absurd magic, and had engraved into their hearts to never antagonise him.

To Milly and Nina, he was their student, and their benefactor. The Magic Bags they had received from Cain were necessities for them to travel even now.

And Nina still had her ambition of becoming his mistress.

“Let’s take care on guard duty from tomorrow onwards.”

They all nodded at Lina’s words.
